Dolphin Assisted Therapy (D.A.T.) is a new and exciting field of modern medicine that some people categorize as part of the Animal therapy. This field of medicine has shown extraordinary results of the therapy and breakthroughs in outcomes in relation to the conventional methods of treatments such as prescribed medication, human therapy and others. It is relatively new, but already has documented results in patients that chose to try it.

The foundation of the Dolphin Assisted Therapy program in Europe goes back to Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, and the Black Sea. The program was founded in 1986 by Dr. Ludmila Lukina.

M.D. Dr. Lukina's research team at the State Oceanarium of Ukraine, located in the Sevastopol, Crimea, conducted studies that led into development of the various therapeutic programs. .

The team headed by Dr. Lukina and consisting of Medical professionals with an average of 15 years of experience working with dolphins and children was able to build a methodology, a theoretical base, and practical application for the programs designed for children suffering from a range of diseases, including autism and A.D.D, ages 2-13.

There is a program for adults as well with various diseases, psychological and medical needs.

Dolphin Assisted Therapy is not a miracle. A filing of a joy and harmony during the treatment sessions in the hearts of children, their parents and support team is a guaranteed outcome. Contacts with the friendliest creatures of the sea and therapy sessions are like a game for patients and others. It is, nevertheless, a very important part of a therapy sessions.

Year 2006 research
The comparative analysis and research of the effectiveness of the Dolphin Assisted Therapy sessions in the closed swimming pool was conducted. It was comparing the sessions in the closed swimming pool to the open sea therapy sessions. The research has shown that the effectiveness of the sessions is higher 20% to 30% when the sessions are conducted in the open sea environment. We offer open sea Dolphin Assisted Therapy sessions in June through September every year. In addition the research has found that dolphins specially trained for Dolphin Assisted Therapy are a lot more effective in their therapeutic effects than regular dolphins used for animal shows.

The therapy program is divided into winter (from November 1 till April 30) and summer (from June 1 till October 30) periods.
Winter sessions include:
- 3 dolphins;
- 3 trainers;
- psychologist.
Summer sessions include:
- 4 dolphins;
- 4 trainer;
- psychologist;
- dolphin's physiologist.

The sanatorium is located at one of the most beautiful places at the Crimean seashore. It is near naturally erupted volcanic mountain named "Bear" mountain. All necessary accommodations may be reserved for the patients and accompanying group members.

The Summer part of the program is located in Sevastopol, Ukraine. "State Oceanarium" Research Center located at the territory of the State Nature Reserve "Feolent Cape and Kazachya Bay".
During the last 35 years of extensive work a lot of experience has been accumulated. Now these results are available for the Dolphin Assisted Therapy program participants.
